Stars from Broadway and Metropolitan Opera join “My Fair Lady” and “The Elixir of Love”

SARATOGA (May 28) — Opera Saratoga’s 65th summer festival announces new stars in additional casting of “My Fair Lady” and “The Elixir of Love” at Universal Preservation Hall between June 20-28.

“My Fair Lady” features Bill Army (“The Band’s Visit,” Broadway) as Henry Higgins and Christine Taylor Price (“She Loves Me,” Opera Saratoga) as Eliza Doolittle, and just announced cast members and celebrated opera stars Keith Jameson (Metropolitan Opera) as Alfred Doolittle and Amy Burton (Juilliard School) as Mrs. Higgins. Burton made her debut as a young artist at the company in the ‘80s and returns to the company in this important role.

“The Elixir of Love” features Shelèn Hughes Camacho (Alcina, Oper Frankfurt) as Adina, Joseph Parrish (Young Concert Artists Winner) as Sergeant Belcore, Dasol Lee as Dr. Dulcamara, and just added cast member WooYoung Yoon (Opera San Jose) as Nemorino. Yoon was a Festival Artist with the company as well and famously was married on the grounds of Yaddo.

Amy Burton has sung with the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, at the White House, and with major opera companies and orchestras throughout the US, Europe, UK, Japan, Mexico, and Israel. Her discography includes recordings for Bridge, Naxos, Harbinger, Albany, Angel/EMI, Opera America, Sound Mirror, and CRI. Performing frequently in recital and cabaret with composer-pianist John Musto, she has been a champion of American composers throughout her career. Her awards include prizes from the Gerda Lissner, George London, Sullivan Foundations, the Marian Anderson International Vocal Competition, and three awards from NYCO, including the Diva Award. She received Opera America’s first Artist Advocate Award.

A sought-after teacher, Ms. Burton’s students can be heard at the Met, the opera companies of Frankfurt, Vienna, Bayreuth, Munich, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Zürich, Glyndebourne, and the Dutch National Opera, among others in the US and abroad. Keith Jameson has sung a variety of roles over a decade at the Metropolitan Opera including the Novice in “Billy Budd,” Bardolfo in “Falstaff” (Live in HD), and “Remendado” in Carmen (Live in HD). He has performed in opera houses nationally and internationally, including The Santa Fe Opera, LA Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, and the Royal Opera de Wallonie in Liege, Belgium. He sang Nanki-Poo in “The Mikado” with English National Opera in London, Flute/Thisbe in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Valencia, Spain and Palermo, Sicily, and at Lyric Opera of Chicago, plus several roles with the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in Matsumoto, Japan, and the title role of Candide with the Maggio Musicale Festival in Florence, Italy, and in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in addition to New York City Opera. He premiered the role of J.B. Williams in “Why is Eartha Kitt Trying to Kill Me?” with Urban Arias. He also sang Sancho Panza in “Man of La Mancha” with Central City Opera and Utah Opera.

WooYoung Yoon has been praised for his “soaring high notes” and a voice that “conveys nobility” – Opera News. This past season he returned to San Jose Opera for the roles of Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, and Rodolfo in “La Bohème.” Engagements this season include the title role (cover) in “The Monkey King” with San Francisco Opera, and Rodolfo in “La Bohème” for his debut with Sarasota Opera, and Alfredo in “La traviata” with Opera San Jose. Future engagements include a debut with Florida Grand Opera in a principal role. He joined San Jose Opera last season as the Duke in Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” and Romeo in Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliet.” In 2023, he made his role debut as Edgardo with the New York City Opera in their production of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and returned later in the season for a concert commemorating the heroism of Chiune Sugihara which debuted at Carnegie Hall. Additional highlights of last season include Mozart’s “Requiem” for the Evansville Philharmonic and a return to the NYCO for “All Is Calm.”
