What is the Future for 12 gauge Mini Shells?

A year or two ago 12 gauge mini shells seemed to be the rage and big topic of discussion. Are folks still using them regularly or have you gone back to 2 3/4" regular shell?

Some folks like them for use on the range but not for home defense, hunting or potential SHTF encounters. What's your opinion?
