The National Archives (TNA) at Kew in south-west London recently had a fascinating and very popular exhibition on the history and role of the British domestic Security Service, MI5, entitled MI5: Official Secrets. Looking at some of the material on display, I was reminded that British historians themselves have periodically been monitored by MI5.
