TORONTO — “Endling,” Maria Reva’s metafictional exploration of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has won the Amazon Canada First Novel Award.

Reva, an opera librettist, received the $60,000 prize at a ceremony in Toronto on Thursday.

One person was shot and killed Thursday evening in Brampton, Peel Regional Police say.

Officers were called to the area of Sandalwood Parkway and Crown Victoria Drive some time after 7 p.m.

Police say one victim was shot and pronounced dead shortly after.
