Congratulations to Tony Gitter, who has been promoted to Professor as of June 28, 2026!
This is a well-deserved recognition of Tony’s contributions to the department, school, campus, and science overall.

The Biomedical Data Science PhD Admissions Committee, with significant support from Shelley Maxted, successfully recruited 8 new students for the BDS PhD Program. These students will begin their programs in the 2026 fall semester. Please give everyone a warm welcome to the department.

Sumin Park Jake Jasmer Turbo Du Xuerou Li Katrina...Kevin Buhr, Director of the Statistical Data Analysis Center in BMI, now has the “distinguished” prefix in front of his Scientist III title. The distinguished prefix recognizes significant contributions to the department, school, and university.

Congratulations to Associate Professor Jiwei Zhao for being named a 2026 Fellow of the American Statistical Association! This honor recognizes sustained and significant contributions to statistical sciences. The ASA Fellows Committee may name only ⅓ of 1% of the total membership as Fellows each year, reflecting the high level of regard for Jiwei’s contributions to the field.
